Titans: The Rise of Hollywood (Discovery+)

Directed by Patrick Reams

When a group of disenfranchised first and second-generation Americans discovered that the American Dream didn’t apply to them, they headed west. Their destination – an arid stretch of coastal California – where they built a new empire where anything was possible. The motion picture industry was born, and the movies quickly went from low-brow entertainment to the greatest mass communication the world had ever seen.  When the studio moguls and artists realized how much was at stake, the battle lines were drawn.

I guest star as Mary Miles Minter, the young, up-and-coming silent film star.

“Mary Miles Minter appeared in nearly 50 films, usually in innocent girl roles, before the infamous William Desmond Taylor murder case brought her career to an abrupt halt. The prominent director, with whom Minter had been linked romantically, was shot to death on February 2, 1922. Reportedly, the actress had visited the director on the night of the shooting; the ensuing scandal ended Minter's film career.”
